Best wishes for 2013. Out With The New has hit the ground running after a wonderful holiday break. Shows from Kerser, Missy Higgins and Ash Grunwald herald the start of the year along with awesome t-shirt designs for Songlines, Nahko, Tame Impala and JOY FM. It feels like it's going to be a great year.

Out With The New is kinda like a cat. Independent, always hungry, and living through nine lives. The past nine years we've worked right through Christmas to ensure a smooth flow of t-shirts throughout the festive season, but this year we've decided to rejuvenate and recharge our lives.

From December 14 through to January 14, the office will be closed as we sun ourselves on an anonymous beach in Fiji, sipping coconut water and catching up on some good books. It's been a great year for us and we hope for you too - wishing you the best over the holiday period and cheers to a successful and happy 2013. Late last year some good friends of ours opened a really cool café in Thornbury called Miss Succulent. A few weeks ago it burnt down (due to a faulty heater). Both proprietors were hospitalized and the damage bill is estimated at $100,000. In an effort to help out, Bodyjar will be performing a benefit show with very special guests, The Steel Birds and The Jonesez. This rockin’ event will take place at the Northcote Social Club on Thursday August 16th. Tickets are $25 and go on sale July 30th. They can be booked through the Northcote Social Club website. Doors are at 7:30 and all proceeds will go directly to Miss Succulent to help them re-open. Please spread the word, and head on down for a night of good times and great music, and help two good Aussie battler’s get back on their feet.

In the lyrics of the famous song, the way to win an audience's heart is to give 'em the ol' "razzle dazzle". Missy Higgins has made her name doing the exact opposite, preferencing honest, stripped back songwriting to any flashy tricks. Her new album tips a nod to this old classic, but we suspect she has lost none of that vulnerability that has seen her become one of the more recognised Australian talents of recent times. Her sold out tour, the first in five years, kicks off tomorrow night in Adelaide before winding its merry way through the capitals of the country. We've made all her merch too, so you can be assured of good quality, non-sweatshop gear, something close to Missy's own heart.

Blue Mountains beatmeisters Hermitude have come a long way in the past eleven years, bringing a talented musical sensibility to an often derivative genre. Their new album HyperParadise is getting rave reviews and being called a landmark album. They've already sold out their Sydney show tomorrow night, but still have tickets left for a few more gigs around the country.

What were you doing in 1976? I was busy being conceived. A group of guys from London were busy forming what would become a hugely influential punk act that, despite the occassional break up, legal wrangle and general transformations, is still releasing albums today. The Damned are playing a tour as fast as their music, hitting Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney over three days from January 19. We're damned excited to be printing and selling their merch. Who knows if they'll be back in this lifetime, so make sure you get to one of the shows.

Festival Of The Sun in Port Macquarie is one of our favourites, even though almost every single goddamn year it seems to rain. This year seems to be shaping up to be no exception, according to our man on the ground up there. However, check out the line up - Art Vs Science, Ladyhawke, Dan Sultan, Hungry Kids Of Hungary, Floatingme, The Snowdroppers, Young Revelry, Brothers Grim, Guineafowl, King Cannons... let's face it, you're probably already wet just thinking about it. It happens next weekend, December 9 and 10 at the Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park.

Nothing like a bit of Shakespearian misappropriation on a Friday night. It's all we had though, Sydney's Boy And Bear are too freakin' good to poke fun at personally - we just got their album Moonfire a couple of weeks back and its restoring our faith in not only music but in the whole damn human race. They're heading out on a national tour to support said album in a couple of weeks, so here's advance warning to get tickets early. It starts on November 2 in Newcastle at Panthers (Panthers and Boy and Bear, oh my!) and wraps up exactly one month later at the casino in Hobart. Buy up big on merch so they can put it all on black and make another album.

Perth maestros Eskimo Joe are back with a new album called Ghosts Of The Past. If I'd been asked for my input before the tour, I would have suggested playing in old, haunted hotels everywhere. It's probably why I'm not often asked for my input. They have loads of awesome merch so get along and say hi to our incredibly good looking sellers. And keep alert for plasma under the couches or whispering voices in your ear.

Sparkadia, or Alexander Burnett as his mum calls him, spends far more time skipping about the venues of Europe and the US than he does back here in his home country, so to see him here again proves an increasingly rare treat. He begins a national tour tonight at the Astor in Perth, and he hints on his website that it may be the last we'll see of him for some time.

Jesus didn't return on May 21, but his cousins Jesus Jones are back as of tomorrow night. It's been a while since we've seen these '90s indie darlings, and the wait is well worth it for they're joined by not only The Wonder Stuff but a reunion of our very own The Clouds. My old flatmate Wes will be literally wetting himself with glee. Can't wait to see the merch!

Ash Grunwald's gritty yet touching blues hybrid sounds just reached a new demographic - yo mama. His latest and greatest release is an album entitled Hot Mama Vibes, and he'll be wooing the mamas all over Australia in yet another very national tour. It started tonight and if it doesn't reach your town, you probably don't have a live music venue.

So we talked about them not long back but we saw them play this week and just have to say again, GO SEE SEEKER LOVER KEEPER! They are ten times of awesome, and so is the little talked about rhythm section of Dave Symes and Jim White. We also printed their t-shirts and chocolate covered tea towels. The whole tour is sold out so you may have to sneak in a back entrance, but just do it, okay?

We've decided that spending all day in warehouses is not nearly as much fun as spending all night at gigs, so we're closing down our webstore to focus on the live merch. To that end, there are loads of deals happening in the store right now from many of the artists we sell for. Have a look through and nab a bargain. We've been waiting for our chance to ride his coat tails to fame and fortune ever since.

There is nothing more wonderful than seeing the kids grow up. Not that we're the parents, but Sarah Blasko, Holly Throsby and Sally Seltmann have been near and dear to the OWTN hearts for many years now, and it brings a tear to our eye that not only have they all come together to times the awesomeness of their music by three with Seeker Lover Keeper, but they've also asked us to spruik for them on their first ever Australian tour. It kicks off tomorrow night at the Factory in Marrickville, and if you're lucky there may still be a couple of shows with tickets available.

We've never been so excited about the end of financial year as today, which coincides with the start of a new Art Vs Science tour. (I might be lying actually, sometimes Anita gets so excited by end of financial year she turns all Hunter S. Thompson on us. We won't see her for a week and when we do it's in a photograph postcard sent from Kangaroo Island where she's skinny dipping with dolphins and having absynthe for breakfast.) In the tradition of our accounts ledgers, The Experiment is the name of the new AvS album, and the artwork alone is worth forgetting we live in a digital age now. Tour begins tonight in Perth and runs right through July.

You might know him as the drummer from Killing Joke, or you might know him as the guy who helped you get your own business off the ground. Martin Atkins is one of those flexible people who can turn his mind from a hi-hat shuffle to a lecture tour without blinking. We thought you might like to read an interview with him on The Rumpus. Our favourite quote is: "You’re always selling something; that’s the theater of it. Some musicians are still trying to get their heads around that fact. “We don’t have any tee-shirts.” Fuck off, then. You’re not nurturing your brand when you don’t have tee-shirts. That’s not about money. It’s about somebody going home with your shirt, waking up in that shirt, remembering your band, so when you play again, they’ll come and see you because there’s an affinity. You’ve used a physical object to memorialize and sustain the relationship you created the evening of the performance. Bands get so short sighted about that."

As the city of Christchurch rapidly succumbs to the power of Mother Nature, many of our thoughts are turning to New Zealand and her people. Roots reggae act Katchafire are from the northern city of Hamilton, but we're sure they'll be emotionally charged as they tour their new album, On The Road Again around Australia as of next week. Go and find out why they're one of the world's most respected acts in their genre.

Townsville born The Middle East are one of those mysterious type bands that reveal next to nothing about themselves except for their music. Sometimes, with other bands, this is a ploy to detract from how terrible the music is, but in this case the music is all you need to know. They've been quietly wowing discerning listeners for so long that they're no longer able to remain a secret. They started a national tour last night in Fremantle, and will probably be in Adelaide by the time you read this. Their shows have also most likely sold out. Yes, they're that good. If you miss out on tickets, get a copy of their new album, I Want That You Are Always Happy.

It seems we were a little ambitious when we moved into our new offices in Brunswick a few months back. Sure, we had some great plans for a room dedicated solely to those little burial balls, so when you opened the door you could jump in and get buried under them, but do you know how much those suckers cost by the thousands? Instead, we have decided to lease out one of our offices. It's $150 per week (plus GST), and I'd love to give you the technical specs like square metres and all but I'm in Sydney right now and I don't have a tape measure that long. I can tell you you'd be sharing with some awesome folks who love good music and are not averse to buying you hot chips at lunch time if they're headed out that way. We're always a little excited when Architecture In Helsinki get in touch, and not just because they do some of the coolest t-shirt designs we've come across. This time they have a new album called Moment Bends, and to celebrate they're traipsing about the country (with some aforementioned cool design merch). They're strange, beautiful and we love them like we love ginger cake.

When it rains, it pours. After recently lamenting the lack of tours happening, suddenly we're inundated with gigs around the country. Join us in the fun for bands like Jebediah, Eskimo Joe, Amy Meredith, Boy And Bear, Pegz, Blue King Brown and Mark Seymour. Just the thing to warm our bones as the air gets chillier.

There have been many great entities over time with the moniker of Washington, and the latest incarnation is young Megan, a prodigious lass who has got people like Paul Kelly and Tim Finn gushing like love-struck teenage boys. Her voice could stop a rabid pitbull in its tracks and her songwriting makes us suspect she may have some kind of computer songwriting circuitry for a brain. Needless to say, we are beside ourselves to be working with her on her current tour.

There are few people who deserve the tag "legendary", but Canadian songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie could not be called anything less. Her songs have been performed by Elvis Presley, Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond and Cher, she was on a Lyndon Johnson blacklist of music that "deserved to be suppressed" and was a cast member of Sesame Street for five years. She's also worked tirelessly as an activist for indigenous rights and peace. She's in Australia once again playing a very limited number of shows this week, and we're honoured to be working for her!

Melbourne's Dead Star Renegade are the kind of band that make fathers with teenage girls start to sweat. The word "rock" will never be a suitable enough description for a band that treats the subject as more a religion than a musical genre. As such, we are happy to get our rock on with the guys on April 16 at Revolver in Prahran for the launch of their debut album, Blackwing.

There are not many things we enjoy more than ridiculous rhyming, and Geelong's forthcoming Festivus For The Rest Of Us certainly delivers (although we would have preferred the spelling to be "Restivus"). They also deliver on the music, with acts like Little Red, Children Collide, Bag Raiders, Muscles, After The Fall and loads more. It all happens both inside the Carlton Hotel and outside in the carpark on Easter Sunday, April 24.

This Friday our ol' pals The Beautiful Girls are heading up to Brisbane, this time without their gumboots. In January they had planned to play the Hi-Fi, but as half the city had turned into an aquarium they were forced to postpone until now. Tickets for the January show are still valid, even if they're still a little damp.

Former Sydney band now London songwriter (with a band) Sparkadia will soon be back to their old stomping grounds to tour their second album, The Great Impression. The album's out March 18 and the national tour starts March 24. Young upstarts Operator Please and Alpine will be along for the ride. We'll see you at the merch desk!

It's been a fine month and a bit but the inimitable Paul Kelly winds up his A-Z Tour in style next week in the classy establishment of Melbourne's Athenaem Theatre. Weird subconscious - I just wrote "anathema" instead, something Paul Kelly certainly is not. Maybe I'm just jealous I'm not in Melbourne. In any event, if you miss him you can still purchase his new book/CD set How To Make Gravy or read one of his increasingly frequent articles in The Monthly.

We do love a good palindrome here at Out With The New. Our general tradition here is to work with lovely, talented, good looking artists, and for once we're happy to break that tradition and work a couple of shows for the man we hate to love, Evil Eddie. You might know him as the frontman for Butterfingers, or the guy who keeps sending your mother dirty text messages. He's playing three shows next week, in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, and if he doesn't get strung up by his genitals beforehand, you should make the effort to go see him.

What does Out With The New, Harvard University and New Kids On The Block have in common? All three are constantly finding talented folks, taking them under their wing and then unleashing them to bigger and better things around the world. Plus, we all have a fantastic dress code.

It is with some sadness and quite a bit of soothing alcohol that we bid farewell to our office queen Cat Clarke. Tomorrow she goes to Thailand for a much needed rest after her strenuous Out With The New duties, and if she doesn't decide to become a ladyboy in a smoke-filled basement nightclub, she'll be returning home to a new job with 3D World.

What does that mean for us? Nothing! We're used to it! We change office geniuses more regularly than you change your Facebook status! We already have the delightful Kristi in the big chair (much to Cat's disgust, she hasn't finished for the day), and until she accepts a placement with Apple or Universal or Buckingham Palace, she can be contacted about any Out With The New stuff at kristi@outwiththenew.com. That isn't a typo, Out With The New has moved offices! We decided to get out of Pascoe Vale for many reasons, one being our neighbour's house getting set on fire and another discovering that Tony Martin works around there somewhere (that suburb is only big enough for one comedic genius), and so we moved to the infinitely more chic Brunswick. We're now situated at 52 Holmes St, East Brunswick. Exciting things about this address are: The East Brunswick is just down the street. RRR is just around the corner. A tattoo parlour and bar is at the end of the road. There's a tram stop for numbers 1 and 8 (awesome numbers) right outside our door. But the coolest thing ever is that our toilet is inside a bank vault, and there's a panic button to press that sounds an alarm if you get locked in. The fun we're going to have with that bad boy over time. Anyway, we're in the middle of painting and filing and getting set up, so if you've tried calling or emailing or popping in please understand and we'll be across everything as quickly as possible. Likewise, if you're handy with a paintbrush, don't hesitate to drop in and say "Hi" or "Where can I start?"

There were some broken hearts (and probably some thankful parents) when The Getaway Plan called it quits back in 2009, not least of all their own. Like Jason Vorhees at camp time, they just couldn't resist coming back to do what they love best, and before heading back to the studio to record some of the new tunes they've been working on, they'll be starting a national tour next week to showcase them live. The shows are already selling out everywhere, so get a move on.

Throughout history there have been many examples of rites of passage, initiations that usually involve young boys having to overcome incredible hardships to prove they are ready to become young men. It is not uncommon in these practices for the boys to have to go wandering in dangerous jungles for days or fight gigantic animals that are hungry and rabid. Melbourne has come up with a new Rites Of Passage, a festival of art, music and tattoos, and some might argue it is just as challenging and fearful. But aside from featuring tattoo artists, art exhibitions, and more you'll be able to see artists including Dallas Frasca, Bomba, Tijuana Cartel, Spencer T. Jones, Abby Dobson, Abbie Cardwell. If that's not worth a little personal growth, we don't know what is. We're slap bang in the middle of the festival right now so if you're looking for something to do this weekend, you've just found it.

Paul Kelly has more sides to him than a decimated Rubik's Cube, but possibly the most fun of all is his A-Z peformances. They're almost as famous as the songwriter himself, and he's back on the roadas of last night to take these evenings of mirth and enjoyment around the country. He's also promoting a new book called How To Make Gravy, a companion piece to the A-Z Recordings that come in a special pack with the book, and contains many writings that place so many of his songs into context. If you've read any of Kelly's works you'll know he is as masterful with the pen as he is with the guitar.

We knew this would end up happening - with the crazy weather up in Queensland many shows will be getting cancelled or shifted and unfortunately The Beautiful Girls is one of them. They posted this apology for their fans:

It's been a long and exciting year and we are all very relieved to be taking a short break to get as drunk as possible (while Craig drinks milk) and kiss every person possible under our trademarked mobile mistletoe. Come the new year, we're very excited to be working with fine upstanding acts including The Shout Out Louds, Shihad, The Beautiful Girls, Missy Higgins and Royal Crown Revue, and that's just in January. For over a decade BODYJAR have experienced the complete gamut of rock … from playing to 3 people at the humble Tote Hotel, Collingwood to playing in front of 45,000 punters in Korea and selling out shows in Japan. They’ve been in the Who Weekly crossword, been referenced on "Neighbours", ignored by "Home And Away", and seemingly less importantly, ignored by Australian commercial radio … cos in the end the JAR still managed to pick up a couple of Gold Records along their way without any real support from mainstream radio. OWTN would like to extend our warmest sympathies and condolences to the family, band mates and fans of Magic Dirt bassist Dean Turner. He was a lovely bloke, a talented musician and a guide and inspiration to so many. He will be sorely missed.

It's no secret that we here at Out With The New are huge fans of Sarah Blasko, but even our devotion was raised more than a few notches with the release of her new album, As Day Follows Night. In our humble opinion it's one of the best damn records released in as many years as we can think of. Seriously, it's that good. Craig saw her in Bellingen last night and nearly didn't return, such was his enchantment from the performance. We're very excited to have printed brand new shirts for this run (based on the cute little character from her new video clip, No Turning Back), and they're selling like crazy. Out With The New are rapt to be donating the online distribution of the After The Fire CD, with all proceeds going to the St Vincent de Paul Bushfire Relief Appeal. The CD features a swag of artists from Renee Geyer, Sean Kelly and Marty Willson-Piper through to Kevin Welch (Nashville), Joe Camilleri, Chocolate Starfish and many more. It shocked us all at OWTN today to discover that the beloved Peninsula Lounge in Mooroduc shut its doors today. Dallas Frasca was scheduled to play there on Saturday night, but due to all gigs being cancelled has rescheduled the show to The Baha Bar at 2409 Point Nepean Road, RYE. Tell all your friends and trek on down to Rye for some fresh sea air and what promises to be a great gig.

He comes with high credentials as well, having run merch for Rise Against for many years, as well as traveling with the massive Warped Tour. Happy New Year! Our dilatory greeting is not due to the nursing of hangovers but rather the resting of muscles, as the new years period was crazy for us. Big thanks go out to Rollercoaster Festival, Peats Ridge Festival and All Tomorrow's Parties for looking after us and ensuring we slept well the next day.

In other news, with the new year comes new beginnings and so it is for our wonderful staff Janet and Amy. Without mincing words they've been running this damn company for ages, and it is with great sadness that we bid them a fond adieu. However, we'll be welcoming a new team soon, so we'll keep you updated and make some formal introductions before too long.

All Tomorrow's Parties is a peripatetic festival that has, over the years, attracted a reputation as being one of the most magical and incredible festival experiences in the entire world. Curated by respected musicians, these excursions boast line ups of such talent that it's not uncommon for fans to travel overseas just to see the line up. I was trying to work out how to get to England for the Melvins/Fantômas one this week myself. For the first time in its illustrious history, All Tomorrow's Parties is coming to Australia, and who better to curate than Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds. They'll be presenting a stunning line up including acts like The Saints, The Dirty Three, Spiritualized, The Reels, Bill Callahan, Laughing Clowns and many, many more. Tonnes of sideshows will happen around the main events, and we're pleased as a punch drunk porpoise to be printing up a special run of All Tomorrow's Parties merchandise as well. This is the next date we'll be able to have your stock ready by, and this is assuming all artwork and quotes are approved by January 5.

Our hearts are all a-flutter at the prospect of working with Perth's loveliest wandering minstrel, Mr. Bob Evans (if that is his real name...ahem). He'll be bringing a new band out on the road and playing a bunch of brand new tracks he's been recording in Nashville for his third album, Goodnight, Bull Creek!, due out around April/May next year. Being a company predominantly staffed by females, the whole “Movember” initiative of growing facial hair for charity becomes a little difficult. Not impossible, of course, but none of the Out With The New ladies have been prepared to ingest the necessary hormones for such a feat, and the three blokes are usually so unshaven it seems a bit of a pisstake to embark on such a scheme in any event. Instead, we are holding our own Movember, and this time the charity is you.

For the month of November, we will give you, our loyal bands who need merch manufactured, mo’ fo’ yo’ money. Movember. Get it? It’s a stretch, but we missed “Stocktober”, give us a break.

For the month of November, any stock ordered and paid for by November 30 will receive a 5% discount. This covers all of our super brand new stock (which, might I add, is cheaper than the old stuff even before this special deal) – the Organic range, the regular range, posters, bags, badges, everything. Anything at all you need us to put together, you will get a discount so long as it’s ordered and paid for by November 30. We’ll also cover reprints in this because we’re so goddamn excited. We are most chuffed to be assisting one of the coolest bands around right now finish off their tour, and we are talking of none other than The Drones. I am in fact awaiting a copy of their new album as I type. They only have a few shows left in Sydney, Brisbane and the west side (WA), so don't miss out if you can avoid it, they don't really play too often. Dates on the tour page!

Festival season seems to come around earlier every year. Before long we'll be celebrating the summer festivals in June. At any rate, we are very excited to be working with a whole range of crazy festivals both large and small in the coming weeks and months - namely Sounds In The Grounds at the Sydney Uni Manning Bar this Saturday October 18, Fat As Butter in Newcastle on Sunday November 2, Trackside in Canberra on Saturday November 22, Festival of the Sun in Port Macquarie over December 12 and 13 and, just confirmed, the massive Peats Ridge Festival on the NSW Central Coast over New Years Eve! Keep an eye on the tours page for details of who's playing, and make sure you bring your wallets a loaded and ready for action because there is going to be miles of merchandise!
